Paul warned Timothy that the day would come when people would not put up with sound teaching but instead would gather teachers around them to tell them what their itching ears wanted to ear. That certainly happened in Timothy’s day, and it has happened many times since. Today, in America, it is at epidemic proportions.
Listen to the show, and then weigh in with your comments. I’ll also be posting a list of criteria that separate the wheat from the chaff (in terms of preaching and teaching).

speaking of “microwave ministry,” one popular revialist say that God does not have time to build knowledge, character or wisdom in us, that we now should simply have a 3rd heaven experience and supernaturally gain such things.
A transcript
And then you know what I saw? A pillar of fire “just like God brought Israel out with a pilla…I have 4 ft. maybe it was 3 ft. this pillar,… that went through the church roof. A round pillar of living fire, blue, red, sparks I mean it was pillar of fire, moving fire went right up through the church roof. I’m looking at Bill Johnson , he’s speaking, I have a pillar of fire here God’s telling me it’s a portal and its like the bush that was consumed but did not burn I thought can this be happening to me . I’m having a Moses experience in Seattle. There’s this pillar of fire here and the lord says put your hand in it and your first thought is I’m going to burn my arm off. So, I put my hand in it RRRR and it was a real pillar of fire.“get in the Pillar of fire” so I get in to the pillar of fire – as soon as I get in to the pillar of fire my entire body starts going RAAAAAAR and I go up through the church roof in the pillar of fire, its transporting me- I’m in the pillar of fire, its like beam me up, up through this pillar, I’m through the church roof and all of a sudden I, I land, when I say land I mean crash on an operating table in heaven” this is a prophetic experience just in case you didn’t know. I mean, you were there charlie you probably remember the sounds; and the sights, okay. So, I’m gone, I’m in heaven on an operating table. The first thing I’m thinking, I don’t watch CSI very often I just started, its interesting, and I’m thinking I’m in an autopsy room or something that’s the first thought, I thought I’m on one of those tables. That’s my first thought y’know I’m in this room appear 4 angels that look like men don’t worry they weren’t like glorious living creatures like seraphim thy were just like guys in white coats but they were angels they had appearance of men two angels stood on one side of the operating table. And two angels stood on the other side of the operating table and honest truth they wrenched me down, I don’t know what it was they tied me down with but all of a sudden my hands and my ankles were fastened to this table but don’t tell me, this is a little graphic. I’m thinking they’re going to do a surgery on me and I’m awake that’s my first thought they are going to do a surgery on me – your going to be operated on by these angels and here’s what happens, I’m thinking they are going to pull out a scapel and go like (sound) and cut me open And all of a sudden I hear this sound like a mitre saw rrrrrrrr a mitre saw like one of those things before brain surgery, they rrrr . y’know they cut your skull , they pick this thing up and I I literally thought (sound) and they put this thing and they stuck it in me right here on my neck and it didn’t hurt but here’s what happened they went (sound of cutting him open) right down to my lowards and all of sudden my stomach went puchh and everything inside of me popped out onto the table, my heart, my liver like everything. And I’m lying there and you want to scream because you think it should hurt but it doesn’t hurt. and your lying there and your arrr arrr all your insides are, here’s the strangest thing. so then here’s what happens the angels start taking these white boxes, they were white boxes (small), I mean like a little Christmas present, but they were white boxes and they were stuff, have you ever seen anyone stuff a turkey… and they start stuffing these things inside of me They t stuffing these boxes all over and I heard the verse “I desire truth in the inward parts.”
So I say what do you want me to do God what do you want me to do God, he says get in. I said now, God you want me to get in the pillar of fire, I’ve got a pillar of fire that is appeared at my meeting and you want me to climb in it. One, nobody else can see the pillar of fire. Two, if I’m going to climb in it anyone at the meeting looking at me is going to see me laying on the floor, they’re not going to see the pillar of fire and I’m going to look like a fool, Bill’s speaking.
I’m wrestling with God he says
I said God what’s happening -
He said “I don’t have the thirty forty years to prepare a vessel I’m doing something quick there’s going to be people who get saved and I’m going to open them up and supernaturally place inside of them 10 years of knowledge, wisdom and even character because of the fruits of the spirit. And so These boxes represent character attributes…”and God, so I desire truth, I said whoa that’s pretty awesome and so I come back to meeting, not come back like I wake up I’m in the meeting again
Wowsers!

Bill,
I’ve actually heard quotes like this for some years now (not with the angelic details but with the same concept of the accelerated pace), and while there are some verses that speak of God accelerating what He does (such as Isa 60:22), and while revival is characterized by supernaturally-produced fruit, the fact is that discipleship and character building still take time, and there is wisdom in experience and years (so long as those years are bathed in godliness).
Of course, God can work things in our lives in such a way that what normally takes ten years can be done in a shorter time — haven’t we all had times when we grew dramatically through an intense season in the Lord? — but the general principles of the Word remain the same, with sowing and reaping and growing and maturing still requiring time.

Good word, Dr. Brown! A thousand “amens”.

I saw similar teachng many years ago when people would return from Toronto and reject Brownsville-style hoiliness teaching. According to their theory, all one had to do was maninate and God would change you. For many, in that emotionally charged (sensual) atmosphere, time has proven that it did not work.
Whether its “maninating” or having angels stuff you with white boxes I find both a distraction from the premminence of the Word in our lives. Or as they say, “there is no free lunch.”

marinate, not maninate.

Actually this applies to me, I have tried multiple things to bring the Father’s word thru some form of media, whether it be online radio or video. I have all these skills and talents, with editing and bluescreen chromakeying, etc. but it is like something (or someone) is not allowing me to follow thru with what I want to do. Then I hear from people how, if you really want to do it, then it is your flesh that is craving satisfaction and accolades, but if it is something that you are not wanting to do, then it is God telling you to do it.
I have a problem with that, cause I believe that Yeshua is knocking on our door right now, that the Man Samael/Satan will use to deceive the nations walks the earth, that it is our duty to get the message out. Maybe I don’t know how I am suppose to get it out, I don’t know. This is something that I have struggled with for years. So I get that.
Michael, just because ABC is airing something about last century, doesn’t mean they are relating it to El Shaddai’s schedule; it just means that scientists are again trying to theorize or rationalize the predicament that we are in. They will individually and collectively not acknowledge that the time of man is coming to an end because of some divine time table. Plus it is not the end of life, Yeshua will still come back and stay with us for another 1000 years, this is just the time for the “Anti-Messiah” to come and reign for 6 +/- years. For the most part it will be business as usual I believe, but we need to be smarter. We are given this time to save money and resources, this is the time before the dark times to come. This is not a time to panic though, I am actually anxious to see how it all plays out. The greatest story ever told is the one we are all living…

Ryan,
Could you explain further how this applies to your work in the media? Also, could you explain what media you’re seeking to be involved with?

I heard a pastor from India once say “Emphasis on doctrine without the Spirit creates dead orthodoxy. Emphasis on the Spirit without doctrine creates emotionalism. Doctrine and Spirit are the two legs that make the body move. You can’t have one without the other.”

Marcus,
It applies in that I asked 2 of my friends to get together and form a group, one where we would format it as a discussion, sort of like a taped midrash in that we would pick a topic and just build on it. That is what we set out to do. I am fluent in Adobe Premiere/After Effects/Photoshop, so it sounded like a fun thing to do, to help educate anyone who would listen. We were going to make DVD copies of these tapings and drop them off with different denominations of believers in hopes to awaken them up to the truth about God’s plan. We taped maybe one or two sit downs, we created a website to host the media on, we thought we had everything going for us. But nothing ever happened. I never edited one piece of footage, we even recorded a lecture on the sons of Zadok, I still have them. Our schedules became an issue, our jobs became an issue; the fabric that held us together seemed to quickly tear. Months later, when it was just two of us, I had the idea of making a streaming radio station that we could host from a local CPU that we would use as a server. I wanted a radio station that had both talk show format as well as playing non-mainstream christian music, like for instance Lenny Kravitz’s God Is Love or Amy Grant’s El Shaddai. Music that I would listen to. A lot of Christian music is very shallow in my eyes; it is probably made with good intentions, but there is no substance to a lot of it. Anyway, not to offend any christians here, but the music I grew up with Beatles, Prince, Eagles, etc I just cannot relate to the mainstream christian music. I am a musician myself and am not too impressed when someone tunes in on one of those stations.
Anyway, the parallel that I was alluding to was that it seemed to me, no matter what idea I had, I for whatever reason did or could not pull it off. And that is what I was referring to that when I want to do something, maybe it was just for me. The only problem with that is that my idea was to create a pseudo name for myself and my partners so that no credit would be given directly to us and no one would focus their attention on us, but rather their attention to the Word itself.
I hope that answers your question.

On junk food gospel…
Dr. Brown I have a question about the verse that many churches use…”Christ came to give us life and life in abundace…” Do the churches who quote this verse say it out of contest or can you help explain. A church that I visited not to long ago quoted this scripture as a way to say that christ came to make us rich and to make us grow into prosperity….this is part of junk food gospel or is it just a verse put out of contest. I will strongly appreciate if you can help me out to better understand… thank you and God Bless.

Juan,
The verse is John 10:10, and while Jesus does not clearly identify the nature of the abundant life in that passage, it is definitely quite carnal to identify fullness of life in Him with getting rich. To say that Jesus died to make us rich is to grossly demean the purpose of His death and resurrection, and while I believe that God abundantly supplied our needs so that we can be channels of blessing to those in need (see 2 Cor 8-9), the prosperity gospel is without a doubt an example of the Junk Food Gospel.
For more on this, you might want to read my book How Saved Are We?

We should’nt call the “prosperity gospel” “junk food”. That’s not nice…..every now and then I like to go to McDonalds and grab a large french fry. How do you think Ronald feels about us comparing McDonald’s food with the likes of the prosperity peddlers?!?!?
