      Hey folks,

Here’s a very useful article by John Piper on how to deal effectively with sin, in particular lust, based on the acronym A-N-T-H-E-M.

Great series Dr. Brown. I picked up one of the few remaining copies of your book “Go and Sin no More” some time ago. This is a must read for all Christians. I think it is one of your best books. It is unfortunate that it went out of print.

I do wonder at times why God made us with such desires that we must constantly be at war with our flesh. Nietzsche, thought it was absurd for man to deny his nature in this life, for some reward in the next life. Of course he did not believe in a next life anyway, so the whole idea of self denial was nonsense. This still leaves the question Todd Agnew asked in his song “If you Wanted Me”, where he ends his song by asking God, “If you wanted me to be like you, why did you make me like me?”. Any thoughts?

Well….He did not exactly MAKE US sinful. He made us perfect, with the will to choose Him (love, goodness, purity, holiness) or the absence of Him (evil) and we chose the latter, in Adam. Furthermore, this struggle is a vital part of the redemption story. And even if the battle gets rough, it pales in comparison to the joy that awaits!

(I was thinking it would be appropriate to post some thoughts in this post even though it came out of listening to the Holiness and Legalism show)

      Dr Brown
A much needed show for our times(Holiness and Legalism).

      On general note

I was hoping that someone would call and talk on the Fear of the Lord and its relation to Holiness. If we look at the church in the States there is enough so called messages on “God’s Love” and it has done little to promote any kind of Holiness. Any honest observation would prove this. This brings in several important things to think about.

      1) If God’s Love is really preached and is prevalent then there will be lesser lawlessness. So is God’s Love actually preached according to the Biblical standard?
      2) Can you bring a division between the Love of God and the Fear of the Lord? If we take the very foundation of our faith, the cross; we see the Love of God in Christ’s sacrifice and the Fear of the Lord in the way God brutally punished His son for our sins. The Love of God is revealed in Christ saving us from Hell but then Jesus says “Fear Him who is able to cast your soul in Hell”. Even if that might not apply to us Paul when talking about the judgment seat of Christ talks on the “terror of the Lord”. I think there needs to be a proper balance between the two always to walk in Holiness.

So Christ’s Love on the cross must be brought with balance, inclusive of the Fear of the Lord for proper Holiness.

The Corinthian church had allowed sin in their lives and therefore Paul asks them to cleanse themselves of all filthiness of flesh and spirit perfecting Holiness in the Fear of the Lord.
As far as this passage and as far as when straying away from the path was concerned, the apostles many times if not always brought in the truth on the Fear of the Lord warning people. Jesus address to the churches also has this pattern.
So if that is the state of the American church, that is she has gone astray then she needs a revelation on the “Fear of the Lord” which will perfect her in Holiness.
The recent events and the way sin has been prevalent in the body is a clear indicator more than ever that we need to see God as Holy in the Fear of the Lord.

“The Fear of the Lord is to hate all evil”
