If what you’re saying is correct, does this say anything about how religious institutions are set up?

This is my take on your question: What could possibly motivate someone to live a double life like this?

Simply put, vanity. When someone is in a position of great authority, they don’t stop and right the wrongs before proceeding; they press on. They convince themselves that they are needed, (by their congregation) to lead the way because they are not big enough to step down for a while and deal with their issues for fear that they might not be able to hold that position of great authority again.

The only thing I can think of is that he made his living through spiritual ministry, and so simply “not talking about God” was not an option for him. Having never been in full-time ministry myself, can someone enlighten me on this aspect of the situation that I may not understand?

I understand that Michael “G” had received ‘words of knowledge’ from the various big name Australian megachurch leaders to the effect that God was going to heal him of cancer. Well they were inclusively true given that he never had cancer in the first place, but you have to ask, where is the discernment of these leaders?
