      Dr Brown,

I have heard a lot of people saying that the time is coming when God will give to the righteous what the evil have stored up. How do you answer this teaching?

If i may post some thoughts on that ..

The concept is basically derived from the Egyptians blessing Israel with riches when they left Egypt.
Also there are several scriptures in the Old Testament that say that the wealth of the wicked is stored for the righteous.

Now, there were quite a few people in the early part of 2000 and after , that prophesied this. Some even gave specific years as to when it would happen. It hasnt taken place till now and i dont think it is ever going to take place in the way it has been potrayed ,although the promises continue to be fulfilled many, many times over in peoples lives.

Now, If there ever was a time this should be fulfilled (again not the way it has been potrayed or prophesied), i think it is now. Everyone knows that the country is being judged financially.

Judgement is a verdict in favor of one and against another. In one sense when judgement comes; one party is blessed and another is condemned ; although the term judgement is often used in a very negative sense.
So the question now is, is the church being blessed at this time, having enough or struggling? If the last word(struggling) is true then it is also being judged along with the world and it might have very well missed the oppurtunity of being blessed during this time.

      Blessings
      John

      More precisely

Also there are several scriptures in the Old Testament that bring out the concept of wealth of the wicked being stored for the righteous

Thanks for your time and answer John. I have studied these scriptures as well. I agree with what you wrote.

I just don’t always agree with how some portray this concept. It leads me to wonder where their heart is. With some it seems to be all about getting rich and living large. I really don’t think the church in America is bound by a poverty mentality. However I have in the past experienced judgment because I had what some perceived to be a lot. My father is a strong Goldy man who worked hard, had a right hard and was a huge giver. He didn’t give to get, he gave because it was his desire to bless others.

I believe God has and will cause His people to be blessed. But to me it is disturbing that this is some peoples main concern. I think the desire for all the world has, is what has caused these economic problems to begin with.

I hope you understand what I am saying. I do not, nor have I ever thought God gets Glory in poverty. I just think there has been a twisting of these scriptures.

      Thanks Again
      Blessings

*The Judgment came from other believers who believed I wasn’t Godly because I had what they perceived to be a lot of money.

One thing that’s interesting pertaining to TEA party tax protestors is that non-Christians like to point out to them one of the few verses they’ve heard to “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s”. Many Christians use this as well. However, this country has an age-old policy of no taxation without representation (taxes are being used to unproductively pay off a stimulus package that hardly anyone knows what’s in it), and this country is supposed to run for the people and by the people….I don’t think Caesar would like our rules.

      Hello Sharon

I don’t think there is too much of disagreement..

I think these verses in Timothy speak for themselves.

      3) If anyone teaches FALSE DOCTRINES and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4) he is conceited and understands nothing…. 5) and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that GODLINESS IS A MEANS OF FINANCIAL GAIN.

      6) But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7) For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8) But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that… 10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil…

The problem is we’ve changed what shouldn’t be changed and turned a blind eye to what has changed from the Old through the New Testament.

Also in observing we tend to swing from one end of the pendulum to the other. From legalism to lawlessness, poverty to prosperity…
There is a balance that needs to be established.

As far as God not being glorified in poverty.. it has its place in context but not the way it has been generalized by many of the prosperity people .
We read through history and from the apostles lives how they suffered and went through many incredible hardships for the sake of Christ. That included poverty, trials, nakedness, perils…

People of a particular place often tend to get influenced by the god(devil) of a place( country) and so assume its nature and start acting accordingly. This finds it way in the interpretation and application of scripture also, leading to a culture far from truth.
It works both ways for prosperity and poverty alike and in other areas as well.

      Blessings
