As a matter of logic--I'll admit that there's no reason why we shouldn't cooperate with Muslims if we're already cooperating with religious Jews and Catholics. But regardless of logic, the idea still doesn't sit right. I was heavily involved in Muslim ministry until just recently, so I don't say this without reservation.

Muslims think that they together with Jews and Christians are a spiritual fold known as ahl-kitab or "people of the book". This makes for great opportunities in sharing the gospel, but it also gives them the impression that we share a common way of salvation.

I think the primary point to take issue with is our call to have a social conscience first and foremost. I don't think that the great commission needs to be sacrificed in order to direct our attention to the needy, and I think this has the backing of scripture. The problem with Rick Warren's approach is that he isn't specifying how we ought to cooperate without neglecting evangelism, and this leads people like me to the conclusion that he is suggesting putting the great commission on hold in order to accomplish other tasks.

The apostle James tells us that pure religion is twofold: to give to the needy and remain unpolluted by the world (James 1:27). In my view, any lost people (including Muslims) qualifies as being a part of the world.

True, you don't see a lot of overt Christians "running and winning offices", but maybe this is yet more evidence that the church has withdrawn from the culture? We need Christians in politics who stand for God and refuse to compromise and put their trust in God to promote them rather than trusting the party machine.

Rickie -- thanks for always weighing in with your thoughts. As for putting our hope in Jesus and Him alone -- amen!

Maybe the Christians and Muslims in the U.S could pull it off, but in the mideast where Christians are considered infidels and are a minority , I cant see it happening.
