Frank Turk has a different perspective on the Manhattan Declaration.

      Worth discussing.

Apostles today? I agree- if you have to say you are an apostle, you probably are not. I do allow that there are people who operate in an apostolic manner – church planting, pioneering.

One of the more famous “apostles” today has declared that “the government of the church got into place on the foundation of apostles and prophets, which did occur beginning in 2001.” By this statement, I would imagine that he has a different idea of what an apostle is. As if this is some sort of new dispensation, or as if God finally got His act together. And yet this is what the proponents of the New Apostolic Reformantion (NAR) believe.

So the better question is do apostle today have absolute authority equivelent to scripture and fill some “strategic” governmental (church government) authority as if they were some sort of protestant pope.

If not, then there are a lot of “apostles” today posturing in a manner never intended by God.

As a side note, most pushing the concept of ruling apostles (NAR style) today are also dominionist and post-mill. They see themselves as instrumental (and indespensable) in fulfilling their “Kingdom Now” mandate.

By simply agreeing that there are apostles today and neglecting the real issue we fail to talk about the elephant in the room.

On the Manhattan Declaration, John MacArthur also has a different perspective, but I prefer what Al Mohler said about it.

On ‘Christian’ tattoos, I felt that the topic wasn’t fully explored or brought to any kind of a conclusion. Can we have more discussion on this subject please, especially if it is indeed one of the more popular questions you get?

It seems to me that there is an element of vanity behind the desire to get a tattoo. Why get one and then cover it up so no one can see it? Obviously in the vast majority of cases it is meant to be seen and to draw attention to the wearer. It’s a bit like Carrie Prejean’s breast implants. If it’s OK for Christians to get tattoos then it’s OK for Prejean to get the implants (as long as they’re properly covered!).

And what about the issue of stewardship? Tattoos aren’t free you know. In Australia the standard fee for a tattoo artist is about $100 per hour. And then there’s the fact that the popularity of tattoos in western culture is paralleling increasing godlessness and paganism. Is this just a coincidence?

[...] I have a tattoo of a fish symbol on my wrist. Is this against torah?? Should I get it removed?? Messianic Jewish apologist, Dr.Michael Brown, sought to cover the issue in-depth on his website when…and there was some good discussion on the matter. As said best by another on the matter from his [...]
